Solo Exhibition - 'Yielding' Northern Rivers Community Gallery, Cherry St Ballina NSW

Exhibition Dates: 20th July 2016 - 28th August 2016. Opening night 21st July 5.30-7.30pm

Gallery Hours: Wed-Fri 10am - 4pm Sat-Sun 9.30am - 2.30 pm

Yielding is an act of acceptance of “what is”, a letting go…In this exhibition it is a metaphor for the combination of disciplined mindfulness vital to the management of Complex PTSD alongside the developing trust that my glass practice would eventually enable me to express what I cannot express in words. After 10 years of experimentation in glass ‘Yielding’ is as close as I’d ever imagined I would come. Each glass form has been intuitively created to reveal the tension of my own existence, indeed perhaps all existence, where safety and permanence are illusion yet equally present in each magnificent breath we take. Creation of forms includes kiln fired glass, often multiple times for periods up to 10 hours, flame worked glass, powdered glass formed wet and then fired, frit lamination firings, patterned bar formation then sliced and refired plus all the knowledge and experience of 10 years of experimentation and immersion into the wonders of glass in my studio workshop at Dalwood. May it bring you peace, as my glass practice has done for me…

Open Studio Exhibition - A rare opportunity to visit me in my studio converted to Gallery Space and view current works plus the works of my friend, Chris McSkimming, Acrylic Painter & mixed media artist who has shared my journey of healing with CPTSD through the arts. Come see where I live & work & enjoy the green of my home. Opening Night Friday 21st November 6-8pm. Saturday & Sunday (22nd & 23rd Nov) 10am - 4pm.

With thanks to Arts Access Australia I'm travelling to beautiful Tasmania in June to be part of the Arts & Disability Meeting Place. Arts and culture plays an important part in the lives of all Australians, but we know that not all Australians are able to participate in it equally. In 2012 AAA introduced a national Members Meeting to address one of the priorities identified in the National Arts and Disability Strategy being the need for a national network, including greater linkages and collaboration between stakeholders. The 2013 ‘Arts and Disability’ Meeting Place event will be held in Tasmania on the 19th June. www.artsaccessaustralia.org

Inter-connected - Featuring paintings by Leah Thiessen and fused and slumped glass work by me Jacqueline King. Inter-connected explores the artists’ journey through life and their connection to the natural environment. "It is nature that we turn to for equilibrium and a sense of who we are"

"There's a bear on my shoulders" one woman's journey through discovery and recovery of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Jacqueline is in the process of completing a very personal journal account of a period in her own life during which time the majority of her creative talents emerged amidst the very darkest hours of her life.

The journal is aimed at raising the awareness in Australia of the plight of those suffering PTSD and provide possible help and support. (Currently statistics reveal approx. 2.8% of the population in Australia, being over 500,000 people are diagnosed, predominantly the result of sexual assault). Jacqueline attributes her management of PTSD to her art and is keen to work with other survivors in this area. Watch this space for more info once completed.
